Pictures of my TRK-5 TV/radio combination and TT-5 "Television Attachment," both made by RCA Victor in 1939
THE SONG CLIP YOU HEAR IS ONLY TO DEMONSTRATE THE AUDIO OF THE RADIO
You can see the TV fired up and working by searching: Early Prewar TV, 1939 Television by RCA Victor, working TV

You can read more about it and see photos of it and its "family" (other prewar TVs) at: http://www.earlytelevision.org/rca.html

The TT-5 to the left is essentially the same TV chassis as the TRK-5 console. It was attached to a radio (like the one to the left of it or a console radio) to play the sound. This particular TRK-5 was used in New York City and the TT-5 Table-top TV was used in Los Angeles. It even has the call signs penciled on the chassis of the 2 Los Angeles TV stations that operated during World War II. They were Don Lee's station and Paramount's station: today they are KCBS and KTLA.

  • Price in 2010 dollars: TRK 5 $4630 , TT-5 $3131

  • @rivest266 - At that rate, the TRK-12 cost $9393. The new 3-D flat screen TVs range at about the same. Interesting to see similar prices for the "newest thing,"

  • i no its an old pre war tv set put with a screen that small i don't really see the point thats not a bad thing i'm just saying its the kind of thing witch is a beautiful piece of work and history

  • @MrKevin2111 -- This video features the cabinet. I turned the radio on to let you hear it and have some background sound, which is less boring. The screen (picture tube) is small because with the glass making technology of 1939, it was difficult and expensive to make larger ones. If you want to see the TV operate, please visit this You Tube page: Early Prewar TV, 1939 Television by RCA Victor, working TV

Just cut and past the title into the You Tube search engine at the top of this page.

  • Is that a 1939 GE TV table Top set I see below the TT-5? What a SUPER collection!! Come see my 1939 RCA TRK-12Television and my TV collection at BJSTV on You Tube.

  • Yes, it is a GE HM-171, which uses a 5-inch tube just like the TT-5 and also plays its audio through an attached radio.
