HD Voice on the phone is important because it's such a complete fix for lousy phone sound. Add more audio bandwidth, and you compensate for noise, distortion, accents, people talking too soft, bad room pickup. Fix distortion (if you could) and you've just fixed distortion. But HD Voice (or wideband audio, if you prefer a simpler name) gives your ears and brain access to the whole sound. That's where they excel.
Is HD voice on the telephone such an urgent issue? Given a choice, I would devote more time to things like reducing noise, distortion, latency issues etc. Not to mention new, cool, multimedia apps.
This does have the feeling of trying to drum up business for yet another voice show of dubious value (we already have lots of under-attended voice shows). And $595 just to go and listen(and lots more to exhibit I'm sure) - wow!
The best way to make HD voice prevalent is to work from the ground up rather than the top down. Get HD into all the handsets so it is offered up during call negotiation and eventually the larger carriers will be compelled to support it.

If you're all about HD and high resolution (audio and video), then why is this video such low quality?
Either get an HD camera or learn how to properly render your video!
