He's a brilliant singer, awful actor, pitty he wasn't in Titanic, he would have floated if he fell in the water. That performance of the Elephant Man when ever, very rarely, is shown on UK television it is on comedy shows so they can take the piss out of him.

The guy who wrote the play was adamant about no make up be used, he wanted the audience to use their imaginations about how Merrick looked. As far as his manner of speech, due to his massive deformities, he could barely be understood.
