After weeks of silence over the ferry crisis, Transport Minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere is now suggesting that commuters pay for the service in Likoni. The minister says a modest fare for the ferry service would ensure the government buys a new vessel every five years. But as Yassin Juma reports, Mwakwere's one shilling suggestion is not going down well in Likoni.
I used to swim to from maddu and back, Lakini it wont help when a ferry sinks. The non-swimmers will pamic and hold the swimmers tightly pulling them down like it happened in mtongwe.

Makwere should be ashamed of himself...this is the next money minting idea he developed recently to fleece Kenyans!!! There always seems to be enough money when it comes to ministers' salary increase..but when it comes to important projects, the citizens have to dig deeper into their pockets. Shame on you Makwere!!!!

Mr. Mutooni - Every time you open your mouth, it seems like there is always something going on. Why are you praising the minister when has already admitted he can't shoot himself on the foot? That's after he was challenged on corruption issues.

Disaster using those ferries at Likoni if you dont know how to SWIM... We used to swim crossing from Fort Jesus to Mkomani Show ground when we were kids. Precaution is better than cure LEARN TO SWIM... coz its not known when the new ferries will arrive.

Does this shillingi charge represent the official government policy on purchasing new ferries ? I'm supposing whatever this guy says is by authority of the govt of kenya since he is part of the cabinet . NTV needs to take him to task to explain how that 'shiilingi' will get from the point of collection to the purchase of the new transports . We need to know the nuts and bolts on how this will be achieved. Nail the bastard to explain this GREAT plan !@#!!
