I'm doing some research for a project I'm working on, do the hydraulic pumps in barber chairs go up and down or just down? As in, if you're sitting in one, can you pull a lever that lifts you up with the weight of you inside it? Is the pump strong enough to lift 150-200 pounds? Let me know, thanks.

Does anyone know how much oil to put into a Koken Chair? I plan on using hydraulic oil. I heard i should aim for about 2-3 inches beneath the pump arm. Is this correct??? Thanks.

@driller1960 the stand? Do you mean the base? Most old ones are cast metal with a porcelain cover. If it's frozen, it's probably rusty. Try spraying some WD40 in the pump underneath the chair. Let it sit for a couple days and try to spin it after that. But it's hard to say what you need to do without seeing it. Even if I could see it, it would still be difficult.
