@ajaxsequent1 agreed. I think Braxton was the perfect unifying personality for the band, able to bridge the gap between Ian's aloofness and Dave's and John's over-focus while giving the band an identity. I actually think "Gloss Drop" would have worked as an instrumental album, and that the band retooling the songs for so many guest vocalists resulted in the band completely losing any sense of identity.

this is by far the worst album battles has made. just lacks direction completely, they have a very unique sound but seem to know longer know where to go with it since braxton left the band. don caballero.... that's all i have say. ian should have never left that band because they still put out amazing albums every time.

@mookie2637 Idk, I would say music like this is very similar to Jazz or Classical because it's very intricate and precise and great for thinking but the only difference is most songs by Battles lack a strong melody. Random is really the only word I can use to describe them, I definitely appreciate their sound I just wish they could make actual songs with it. I would love to hear this song go somewhere but to me it's just filler.

@MightyMartel Mmmm. Interesting. I know what you mean, but they do well with it. What, though, would you characterise as the opposite?

@MightyMartel better random than common

@shuckuma Oh yeah, I remember that one. Yeah, pretty random.
