The Malargüe province has more than 600 volcanoes - a vast remote area of lava fields to explore. Currently less than 20 lava cave sites have been recorded and most are close to the very few (unpaved) roads in the area. The most accessible cave is Cueva del Tigré which is only a few hours drive from Malargüe. Doña Otilia is also reasonably easy to reach from Malargüe but you need a sturdy car and a good directions. There are really only another few sites known about to the north of Payun Matrú despite the obvious potential. We have not yet visited Neuquén Province which is to the south of Payunia but we know there are a few caves there. www.mendipcavinggroup.org.uk
