A video I made in honor the Hawai'i's Last Queen.
Queen Lili'uokalani (1838 to 1917) was a prolific composer, the first female Native Hawaiian author, and the founded the Queen Lili'uokalani Children's Trust for orphans and indigent children--which still exists today. She is best remembered for her composition, "Aloha 'Oe". In 1891, upon the death of her brother King Kalakaua, she became queen of Hawai'i. In 1893, she was deposed by US naval forces and two years later imprisoned in her palace. Until her death in 1917, she continued to fight for the rights of her people and her country, in her words, "....The cause of Hawaiian independence is larger than any one man connected to it".
The song in the background is Kanaka Waiwai, a church hymn that the Queen had especially liked

Queen Victoria's relationship with Hawai'i runs very deep. She was the godmother to Kamehameha IV's son, Albert, and the namesake of Queen Lili'uokalani's niece, Ka'iulani. In 1887, Queen Kapi'olani and then Princess Lili'uokalani attend Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. Queen Victoria and Prime Minister Gladstone were deeply loved in Hawai'i because of their respect for Hawai'i during the Jubilee and many royals studied in Britain including Ka'iulani, Prince Kawananakoa, Prince Kuhio, etc.

Hello, I watched your video on The last Hawaiian Queen, I'm just curious as to why the Hawaiian Monarchy did not continue? Does it have anything to do with America's annexation of the Island? It just appears to be very suspicious that all of a sudden the Monarchy ends as America solidifies it's control of Hawaii. It looks like cut off the head kind of political control. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

American control in the Hawaiian Islands began when American protestant missionaries arrived in 1820. Their children and grandchildren would later impose an awful constitution and then depose Queen Lili'uokalani with the help of US marines and the US ambassador to Hawai'i because she wanted a new constitution to give Native Hawaiians voting rights and to change the economic & political relationship with the US. The US then incorporated HI as part of the Spanish-American War.
