Haha~ don't worry... the meaning of 那個 (Nàgè) is "that" not "nigga"; and I'm not Tawanese but I take Mandarin Lessons. The part about the tones is not because they don't know them, but because they know you don't, so if you point correctly although you say it wrong they agree 'cause they don't want to be hard on you; in my case my teacher is very strict with the tones...

About the student thing, it's actually Asia culture. Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, India, Singapore......I mean all students do is study, study, study. But people in Taiwan are luckier than those country. Taiwan people also value many other things highly. Ex: U can play golf like Yani Tzseng. U can be a muscian and super star like Jay Chou. Compare with other Asia countries, Taiwan students have more space and freedom.

No, teacher can't hit students now. Teacher will be suited. And many students record it by cell phone and e-mail to news station. Then, the teacher got big trouble.
