MB to make last call on booze ban

Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim today moved to tighten the tap on a running debate between his state cabinet members over the state's decision to limit the sale of alcohol.

Government officials will also be gagged from talking publicly about the matter, to avoid "further confusion" over the issue.

Khalid said he is personally overseeing the final touches of the state government policy to limit alcohol sales and promised to come up with a solution by Friday.

"I'm tasked to solve the problem of the implementation (of the policy). It is an administrative mechanism," he told reporters after chairing a six-hour state executive council meeting in Shah Alam.

"All parties agree that the best way to do it is to find a fair mechanism, taking into account the needs of the public and also to respect the cultural and religious views (of the citizens)".

Selangor's new policy is targeted at the selling of beer and other alcoholic drinks at convenience stores and mini markets, which makes the beverage accessible to everyone.

Maybe we have reach a stage where Malaysians of different faiths should be segregated to live in designated enclaves - IF we are going to impose such bans! What the Selangor MB highlighted - Self regulation by the people themselves according to their faiths is the way to go, instead of infringing on other faiths' rights!

Dress the way you want but do not dictate how others should dress! Eat and drink what you want but do not deprive others of things which you do not eat or drink !!

S.Alam folk not infringing on other faith. and not dictate to others.

they just need strictly ban on beer at 7/11. Non moslem freely consume of beer as much as they can, but, sensitivities of malay need to respect. Openly beer activities not pleasant to them. It's like have Pig farm at S.alam by majorities in 95% of malay.

Why not, Just Shah Alam strictly ban on beer instead of other cities.

Yeah dude, Some of point U right. but resident in S.alam object any selling of beer, They want lead example to others. They worries see many malay youth involved negative activities.

S.Alam population is 95% was malay. Let they settle it among them. For those need party, sosial, disco or drunk, better go to KL, Klang or other place.
