Having been there (3 times admitted to hospital now) I can truly say that if doctors took the time to talk through the delusions and help bring the delusions into focus and show that they are untrue or misleading, it would over time bring them back to a more settled, stable mental environment. Thing is Psychotherapy seems to be forgotten in terms of psychotic illness these days, the quick fix is give a pill and kill it off, along with most of the positive aspects of the brain and its functioning

Teleterkji - Very good comment. Yes, he is in a very negative environment. All they do is talk and talk. Ask him questions and then try to disect what he says and figure him out. That will never work.

Jesus christ the guy is probably lacking some vitamins and just good plain old exercise. The doctor is totally clueless and he admits everything is complete guesswork. The Dr. is clueless. Get this Gerald outside, a run through a forest or something. Do something creative. Something hands on.

I couldn't have said it better. It's nice knowing somebody else who actually thinks. :)

In this case and most cases - The only difference between a "crazy person" and a "normal person" is that they vocalize the crazy things they hear in their head.

If you read a book by Eckhart Tole - you'll see EVERYONE has crazy thoughts in their head. Everyone does. Some people ignore it & considered "normal" & the people it disturbs are considered "Crazy".

If I had a few problems and then you locked me up in a small room and doped me up with a cocktail of mind-altering drugs I'd be crazy too.

Paisleytits - I agree. I remember seeing this video in High School in psychology class. No mainstream doctors really truly study the mind and body as a whole. Everything is compartmentalized, everything is black and white. They think its all simple chemical and electrical simulations.

I for one do not believe in 99% of most drugs on the market. Tylenol is can be lethal if you take too much over a few days, for example. It builds up. Most these anti-psychotics make these people WORSE!

I believe the man responds to the negative environment he is in,to the utter confusion of the unconscious doctor, his mother and the therapist, who in trying to understand, only makes things worse for his condition,

I wonder what would happen if doctors actually listened to the things they were saying instead of treating patients like cattle.

I mean, I know it can be nonsensical, but still.
