Last season I baited with 50 lbs of corn 2X's a week. Each bait received 1 bottle of Shoprite pancake syrup. I also mixed in some expired hostess cakes and on the trees around the bait site, I smeered creamy peanut butter.
I had bear activity all day and night on the trail cam right up until 5 days before the season. Then everything shut down and the bears disappeared. I discovered that 4 other guys had moved into the area and set up their own bait piles (one was dog food) within 150 yards of mine-that seemed to drive the bears off. (though i guess the food atracted the deer because I shot a nice 8 point instead)
I learned my lesson. This year My spot's a secret known only to my wife and I. I've just started baiting with the same regimen-corn/syrup/hostess... I have bears on cam, and the location is off the beaten path on private land that I got permission to hunt this year. Hopefully I'll have as good of activity as last year and be left alone so that the bears aren't spooked
