  • man Herbert Hoover was a best pres ever.

  • @thedocumentarian GDP is a piss poor way to measure prosperity in this modern age of debt financed government. But I will take the bate. Please tell me during what period in Sweden's history did their GDP grow the fastest. They tell me during what period did growth stagnate and real wages in Sweden drop. While you are at it see it you can make the connection between the growth of the welfare state and government in Sweden and the slowing in growth of GDP.

    Do the same with Canada

  • Hoover was most certainly not a progressive, not in the sense that we've come to use the word today. He sat on his hands and watched as the nation fell into disrepair in the Great Depression. His feeble attempts at help like the RFC was pathetic.

No man ever came into the office with as much promise and intelligence as Hoover... and no man every failed to live up to this promise as did Hoover. He was a very, very bitter and angry man at his death.

  • @allencrider Its called google my friend. Look for yourself. Its all true. Ever heard of the hoover dam? One of hoover's public works programs designed to get people back to work.

  • Another winger trying to rewrite history in service to the Great Lie -- conservatism.

  • @thedocumentarian Thanks for shouting at me about a discussion from 7 months ago, jackass. Yeah, I'm sourcing heritage. Find me a better source and prove to me that its better.

Besides, lets get to the heart of the matter. You don't actually care how much more effective big government is than free markets and free people. The fact is, you hate freedom. You think everyone else is stupid and needs to be pushed around with guns. You are too much of a pansy to do it yourself, of course

  • @nurbSoldier HERITAGE? YOU'RE SOURCING HERITAGE?

Sir, did Heritage tell you about Sweden, Norway, Australia, Japan, France, Switzerland, and The Netherlands...they have bigger governments and they still have high GDPs and are democracies! Swedens GDP per capita is higher than the US!

  • @nurbSoldier Leftists hate freedom. So the leftists who want gays to marry freely or serve in the military freely is still...hating freedom right? Dumb turd.

  • Herbert Hoover was a self-proclaimed progressive and a huge proponent of the Efficiency Movement. These are only facts.

  • Are you serious? In 1913 China had the third largest GDP and has consequentially been in the top few spots GDP-wise.

The reason is pretty simple: lots of people and lots of resources.

Also the other advanced countries you've mentioned became like that because of intense WWII and post-war intervention.
