Instead of a sand castle, why not create something interactive and fun! Here is how I wasted a day of my summer vacation this year.

audio script follows:
Hi everyone

thanks for watching my video

This is how I wasted one day of my summer vacation this year. we call it a ball roll!

it is a lot of fun to build and when you are done you have a cool toy to play with on the beach for the rest of the day

we have been making these for several years and each time have a totally different design. Most of the time on this one was spent creating this huge mound of sand.

this design was relatively simple but lots of fun for the kids once it was done.

It has three paths from the top to the bottom
the first was built for speed. we wanted it to look like there was no way the ball would stay on the track. It looked cool and usually brought the ball safely to the goal.

the second track includes a long tunnel through the center of the sand
the tunnels are lots of fun to create
we wanted to build a lot of speed in the tunnel and have the ball jump into the goal at the bottom

the third track is the coolest to watch. We built several tunnels in a zig zag formation so that the balls pop in and out on their way down.

All of the balls come together at the bottom in the goal so we can grab them and run up to the top again!

There are lots of different design ideas that work for a ball roll. You can also add sand castles to them as you build them which can make them look really cool. Be sure to work from the top down. We have created cool features over the years including switch backs, forks in the road, a pinball, and a mystery tunnel where the ball goes in one hole and randomly comes out of one of three different exits. You are limited only by your imagination and time. All you need is some paddle balls, a good sand shaping tool, a bucket for watering the sand and a shovel. We created the tunnels by forcing a plastic plumbing pipe through the sand and then carefully pulling it back out. It also helps to have a spray bottle when you need to repair a track.

Have fun
