Because life just ain't always perfect and perky, I sometimes feel like playing atonal and dissonant music. "Atonal" music for me expresses and evokes, confusion and lack of direction. Whereas, in "tonal" music, there is always a note that is the most important - the root note. The root note is like home...the place you start from and always return to and it is what gives us a sense of direction and purpose in most music. "Atonal" music tends to lack any kind of direction and often feels disjointed, dissonant, and unpleasant. In the piece here, I am using the notes of a tonal scale (C Major) but i am purposely not playing with any tonal direction. Instead I am exploring darker emotional places. You may have to be in the right mood to be able to listen to this type of music. The last several pieces I have uploaded lately have all been from a single sitting, in which I explore and express various moods and feelings from piece to piece.

  • dang how do you get that dramatic lighting with only the guitar and your arms lit up and everything else just BLACK. it really adds to the effect!

  • @The70srockfan

I'm planning on doing a tutorial on how to do the lighting in the future. Thanks!

  • is the purpose of music different for the player then for the listener?this improvisation is amazing if you can feel the order and the chaos, mixing together

  • @TheFearco

    Thanks for noticing that!

  • Really enjoyed this piece. I subbed*

  • please guitar lesson....Rodrigo from Brasil

  • I'm not sure what to think of your new style since you've started posting vids again. Your technique has obviously improved greatly and I love the improvising, but sometimes it lacks something coherent, like your former vids. Maybe you can solve that by throwing a couple of chords in there now and then, cause I loved the strumming vids as well. Nevertheless, I still think you're one of the best musicians on youtube. Fo sho :)

  • @johnclarkemusic Oh please do that tutorial soon. I'd love to be able to do that.

  • your music is beautiful, and you go out of your way to help others with their music..God speed John Clark

  • I'm still amazed about how many people you inspired into learning guitar.

    Really awesome!

  • I love the feel of this. I've finally transformed my playing into the same style as you when it comes to expressing emotions and moods through your strings. You truly show that fantastic ability to just feel your music, and in turn, your music speaks your words. It's beautiful the way it comes together and flows through, like Fear said, order and chaos, calm to thoughtful, quiet minded to running at high speeds and thoughts you don't understand, but follow down the foggy path anyway. Brilliant.

  • sweet. I still find it strange when seeing a crowd of people going crazy in front of speakers, dancing and living it up. With out the sound/noise/music(whatever happens to be on), those dancers would appear to be literally insane. But with the music in the background gives their movements purpose and life. so weird why we dance. was that deep? hahah

  • HI am very new to the playing of the guitar, your style and emotion is all the inspireation i will ever need many thanks for sharing.
