  • the first concerto sounds like early beethoven

  • now i know where paganini got he's idea for he's concerto no.1 ....

  • You don't become a creative orchestrator by studying orchestration. This early work shows a competency with orchestration that is about as much as you can expect from someone who has only studied the art. The later refinements could only come about as academic knowledge was enriched by experience & experimentation.

  • @f1741 i believe he was only 19 when he wrote this. that might account for a lack of orchestral creativity?

  • The orchestration is not good--amateurish, actually. I wonder if he studied orchestration later than this piece. The 4th and 5th concertos are far, far better than this. Frankly the violin part, while showy, isn't all that interesting, either.
