@radosnatfurczosc, stop this pagan thing? Excuse me, I follow a pagan spiritual path! That is like saying stop this "Christian thing," this "Jewish thing," this "Islam thing," "this _____ thing." You choose who you want to worship/follow and we pagans will do the same! ("Lives in a tent near his house...how horrible...lol)
-
please stop this pagan thing, one gimbus from Poland is so pagan that he started to live in a tent near his house

@queenieserena you do have a point, and I do like the traditional Celtic pagan styles (Although religious-wise I completely disagree with them) I have found I can enjoy almost anything from gospel to pagan and more. I find in woman like her, they change their style constantly and even older after decades of singing they try to learn something new and step out of their comfort zone in most cd's. I do agree with the idea we are never too old to learn, although her clear and soft vocals, wonderful
-
@TearisShatteredMoon - That's the great thing about Pagan concerts...smaller and more comfortable crowds than the normal "concerts" bring. She actually casts circle with song before she gets into the actual concert, so its actually quite a unique concert setting. And as for training her voice, I'm sure she does, although at her age and amount of years singing professionally, shes probably more of a teacher than a student. (and yes, I do know that teachers still go to their own coaches!) :)
-
@queenieserena I can see that, she has a great voice, and you know that as she trains she can only get better. I would love to go to concerts if I didn't have my post traumatic issues in crowds who knows maybe someday I will again!

@TearisShatteredMoon @TearisShatteredMoon - As someone who was blessed to hear Wendy recently, let me tell you, her voice left an impression on me that I will not soon forget. It is quite powerful in person, naturally primal and airy in nature. She plays with her range and color at whim, and the all important energy behind it. Also, done live with minimal backup, this chant is true to the nature of all chants more than this recording. If you ever have the chance to...see her live!
-
@spellsncandles she has a very Rythmic voice
-
Loving her voice and the instruments she is using!! Its giving me song ideas for cub scouts campfire songs!!
-
@lyrestonehart I think she has a potential but her voice isnt quite properly trained... yet
-
@TearisShatteredMoon Okay that's fine with me. My opinion is in fact that she's pushing her voice to do something she's not quite mastered yet. It sounds like she's trying to do a "smoky nightclub jazz" voice to me and I don't think it's coming through the way she wants it to. I'm just trying to articulate what it sounds like she's going for and why I don't think it quite hits the mark.
-
@lyrestonehart When I say "Renaissance" I did not say that area I said during that rough era, If you capulate back the tribal time and Celtic time it was around the same as medieval era when they were used alot just in other places.
-
@lyrestonehart the soft growl "not metal but the throaty words" was part of gregorian chants, and was also used in the dances of pow wows and tribal celebrations. Not all people see that as sexuality, not all cultures do.
So all I am saying is you can't be sure her motive for doing it so i would call it more "pushing her voice passed it's skills" then "trying to make it sexy"
Just adding a bit of content to historical music styles from someone obsessed with cultures and mythology.
-
@TearisShatteredMoon I hardly think that the growl was born in the Renaissance. What I'm hearing here is more typified by Jazz. If you have a lounge singer voice, fantastic. Use it to your advantage. If not... trying to affect that flavour can ruin your piece.
-
@lyrestonehart I don't think that attempting to growl or go more wild or deep is always a sign of trying to "sex up" though. It's used alot deep chants and growling that sound like this in tribal and celtic culture. It's a more renaissance era style but it was about depth more then sex in that use.
It was done in classic Wicca music style in old Celtic era for accenting emotion (Just something to think about)
-
verry beautiful, I love chantes like these!
-
hey if it sounds like she's trying to be sexy, its cause the elements are lol
-
Sounds kinda like a more extreme stevy nicks style.
-
well you may think its not very good but my youngest so has just fallen a sleep to this and normaly he's very picky so i congratude to the makers and singer
blessed be to all :)
-
ya gotta love the elements~! =3=

@YourDarkAccomplice Well, saying "it sucks" helps no one. I never give a rating without saying why. It's not the subject matter or my perceived notions of the singer that bother me. The cadences she sings, the wordless, undulating notes are very beautiful and sound natural to her so it's not her voice in its entirety that I don't like. It's just when she moves into the lyrics that she sounds like she's pushing herself too hard.
-
@lyrestonehart - Ah, I see. Well, I can't tell you how refreshing it is to get an "in-depth" response over a simple question. I appreciate your taking the time to explain your perspective, and while I don't agree with it (mainly because I prefer my own visuals of giving this song it's own 'character' and not of the possibility of her "trying to sound sexy" Lol!) I'm very pleased with the rarity of your reaction. Most people would just carry on with an emotional reaction and random insults. x)
If you listen to most Pagan & folk music, you notice that the beauty of the voice hasn't really been an issue. She's singing from her heart and that's all the Gods care about....dance children, sing, and make merry the old ways!
