I knew how to play portions of this song since the early 80's, and never knew the lyrics or rest of the song until recently. I'm using a Yamaha FG-402 folk guitar.

Man, I've heard this song covered so many times.
I've thought how many more minutes of a soulless cover of said song would I have to listen to before I heard just a person such has yourself do it with real heart.
Thanks Brother

That's cool... during the Dm, there's no need to sound the open A, except during the verse-- his bassline does a quick little A/D/A/D bounce halfway thru, prob best done on the A string at that 5th position... again, small potato's...
10th-fret Dm's? Looking at other YouTube Greg Lake perf's of it, he doesn't seem to go for it; after the intro figure, he just stays 5th position...
Again, great song and great job, dude... I tabbed out the guit AND synth solos... too much time :-)

From one guitarist to another-- wonderful performance! Great mellow, smoky late-nite vibe, true to the original, but with your own feel. Best YouTube version out there.
...One small suggestion, take it or leave it: The Dm7 during the verses & choruses isn't the full barre you're playing-- let your D and A strings stay open, but everything else is the same (so it's just like an 1st-position D major moved 3 frets up). It lends more of an open-string, airy feel.
But small potato's... Great job!

Its funny you mention that about the Dm7(D chord on 5th fret). I do play it that way currently, but did not update the vid yet. I do not play open A (5th string) in the chord though, and start with the 4th string when doing this kind of Dm7. Also for the melody, and chorus, I also play the other Dm chord on the 10th fret, instead of the 4th fret stuff I am doing here. It sounds a little different, but better. Thanks for the comment!

Well done could you tell us how long it took you to learn this?
futureinand 4 years ago
Sure,
If you see the comments, I have knew portions of this since the 80s, and learned the rest sometime in 1996 after doing research.

The guitar sounds great!? is it amped or a mic? sounds real full, warm and intonated.
ew20asent 4 years ago
There is only a mic on my upper right shoulder. The mic does have boost turned on via windows sound manager.
