I read it the other way. The Rover SD1 was so far ahead, that was ready for the future: the flatpack shopping at Ikea!

My late uncle was an unfortunate Dutch garage owner who in 1970 became a BL dealer, but stopped doing so, with absolute repulsion and horror, 5 years later. He wrongly assumed that British made cars were still the quality products of the pre-BL era.
It nearly ruined him.
