1998 NBA Finals Game Six - Chicago Bulls 87 Utah Jazz 86

Difficult calls for Utah Jazz fans to live with. Everyone knows that MJ pushed off on Bryon Russell on the go ahead shot in Game Six, and while it would have been very difficult for a ref to make ...

byu1984 don't say that "everyone knows that MJ pushed off on Bryon Russell" cos I'm sure that wasn't any push on that play .

If you think that was a push then you are either blinded by hate or just utterly deluded.

bye1984,

If you've ever played regulation basketball, or even streetball, you know that wasn't a push off...

That little hand on his leg did nothing to make Russell slip. His body was already turned defending the drive. Jordan caught him way out of position and pulled up for the jumper.

that wasnt a push off. Jordan never extended his arm. it looked like a push because jordan stopped on a dime and russel couldnt and slipped. simple as that

I definitely agree with the other plays being miscalled though, and he probably was lookin to take those shots away from the jazz. However replay was not done then, so its actually a close call, and it wasn't nearly as bad as other games like game 6 2002, or even typical shit today where i think its gotten out of hand.

ps. fuck dick bavetta/stern

Jordan didn't push him hard enough, if at all. Since when were you not able to put your hand on defenders in 1998? Theres no way MJ can muster that kinda energy from where he touched him with his posture to just push a (huge) guy like Russell to the ground like that. Back then hand checking rules didn't preclude people from putting hands on each other.

It only looks like he pushed because he fell down. Have you ever seen MJ crossover people before? They trip up all the time
