Early in 2011 I gave a little presentation about vegetarianism at a Deeksha group. I'm not an expert about it but I have searched out some simple statistics and information geared to inspire potential vegetarians to make the switch. You can find more specific statistics and information about vegetarianism at Peta.org or all over the web. I know that the issues of compassionate eating in regards to sustainability and ethics are much more complicated and diverse than I could articulate at this group. However, I do think that the greatest teacher of all are the plants themselves; so my goal was just to turn people onto plant foods so that they can be transformed from the inside out. Plus, I do believe that vegetarianism is the first step towards a greater understanding of compassionate eating, because we don't really learn to appreciate something until we have done without it for a while. I think that when people have abstained from animal products, they gain a new appreciation for the animals themselves, and choose to treat them more compassionately, whether or not they remain vegan/vegetarian. In my opinion, shifting to a plant-based diet is a turning point that the whole of humanity is desperately in need of. Thank you to all of the vegetarian/vegan/compassionate-eaters out there for walking the path that you are for the greater good of all. Please help to spread the message of compassionate eating to all those in your circle and beyond. Film and presentation by Sandy Parsons, www.SandyParsonsGallery.com.
