why do they all have muzzles on?

They wear muzzles because when you have a large group of dogs together like that, it is safer for the dogs. Just in case one of them decides they want to fight. It is very rare, but greyhounds have very thin skin, so injuries can happen quickly, with EVERY dog trying to get in on it.

@verypen You obviously didn't look at how big the muzzles are, retard. They are more than big enough for them to do anything and everything they could if they didn't have them on. They are to prevent nipping, as greyhounds do not have a lot of fur and thinner skin. Have a little bit more intelligence before posting idiotic statements.

Muzzles are to prevent injuries. Their skin is thin, no body fat. It does not puncture, but tears, always needing stitches. They can eat and drink muzzled. Muzzles also work better than the "collar" after surgery. Retired dogs are used to muzzles as long as it is not used as punishment.

Its so sad that I am forced to ask "How can any of you think this is humane?" They have muzzles on. No opening their mouths to stretch or yawn. They're in cages, driven by jelousy to watch the other dogs run around happily. Call me a hippie, but I consider this cruel.

so unfortunatly they are to blame for the riducolus penalty not the greyhound racing board, this man in particular should not be allowed to own any animal at ALL, he already was charged a few years ago, with striking and throwing a greyhound, so you would think having prior cruelty to animals that he would have been given a much harsher sentence

yes I did know about that and at the first stewards inquiry he was banned for 10 years and unfortunatly, in july he appealed and discustingly it was reduced to just 12 months and a good behaviour bond for 2 years, I have also wrotten to Peter Ali the CEO of Greyhound Racing in SA and he agrees that the 10 years was an appropriate penalty for what he did but it was an independant body for the appeal (it was requested) they actually thought they would be harder not more leiniant,

I live in the UK but I've had debates with Australians before on forums and the attitude is the same the world over.

Commercial greyhound racing will always attract an element of society which will exploit greyhounds for financial greed.

The governing bodies do very little to deter these people otherwise we wouldn't continually be subjected to horror stories of abuse and neglect.

The most recent case in Australia is the guy who unashamedly cut off a greyhounds tail - with scissors!
