  • When I learned osotogari from Master Kaelin he taught us to do it like Okano sensei did. In that instead of a straight back and forth you turn into the push and use your shoulder to off balance them, the resulting throw more lateral then straight front and back. You also strike them higher in the center of balance and lead with the reaping leg instead of the bracing leg.

  • another variation is to tweak their balance by using your collar hand to push the neck to the side on the carotoid artery whilst pulling the sleeve slightly towards your hip (therefore going with the collar tweak) but do it almost simulateously with the leg sweep. The balance is lost at the same time as the sweep.

  • @AyaJpn

    same here:D

  • Yur shit.

  • Begun learning this today. Was taught it this way. The shove or stretch of the upper body is a good way to make sure you get close to them and get your hips beside theirs. At least those were the points I was getting wrong and when I did it by lifting uke's arm up and pressing in to him I found I was automatically in bettter position. Still kept screwing up the sweeping leg though.

  • Love your video.Awesome teacher!

  • my favourite throw in karate

  • @AyaJpn lol

  • not the way I learned it but looks equally effective
