Playing in storm water pipes and drains is dangerous at any time of the year and there is a high risk of serious injury or drowning. Pipes and drains can be very unpredictable as heavy rain fills them without warning.
A community awareness campaign, with advertisements tailored to both wet and dry seasons, has been launched to help young Territorians understand these dangers. The key message "Use your brain, don't play in pipes and drains" is delivered by rapping frogs and aimed at children aged 7 to 15 years.
The campaign is an initative of the Northern Territory Water Safety Advisory Council, in conjunction with the NT Government, Darwin City Council and Palmerston City Council. For more information contact the Water Safety Branch on 1300 301 059.
I think I'm gonna go play in a pipe and then move into the drains...
