http://www.globalchange.com Old style education focus on memory and knowledge. New style education needs to focus on how to find immediate answers to complex problems from a starting point of ignorance, using new technology. How education promotes useless skills and neglects primary requirements eg instant summary of state of knowledge, fine to draw heavily on existing material. But in education such a summary could be rejected as plagiarism. But in business originality is often less important than a superb summary. Radical changes needed in examinations, assessments. Future of examinations -- online, using keyboard to prepare answers, assistance is allowed, using existing sources is encouraged. Impact of Google on education. Impact on Universities. Need to teach evaluation methods to assess authority of online sources. References. Video on future of education, high schools, colleges, universities, curriculum, trends, syllabus, exams, assessments, business schools, MBAs, degree courses - by Dr Patrick Dixon, Futurist conference keynote speaker for NAIS.

  • Of course. knowledge is vital to our future. I am just saying that we need to rethink the kind of skills which we have traditionally (and for very good reasons) promoted in education in the past, to bring them into line with the realities of the world that students will be working in between now and 2050.

  • Thought-provoking, but I wonder whether this is not too narrow a vision. From the point of view of the world of business, this seems spot-on. What about education to build up character, reflection, etc.? I'd be interested in your response. I'm giving a presentation to the sixth form college I work at on developing the use of technology in teaching and learning. Thanks for uploading.

  • Yes I agree, as you will see if you watch the rest of the presentation to NAIS. Character is everything.

  • @CharlieBBoy12345 Building character through education, I don't think so. Character is the will to live morally, but morality is a function of the body and your species. Morality is specie's specific. All parents are frustrated that they can't impart their experiences to their children. They all offer their advice, but children on balance, ignore it. The only thing worse is those few who follow it.(lol) Some things we learn on our own through the real school, "School of Hard Knocks."
  • This guy so reminds me of Gerald Ratner. Google him if you don't know the story. It's been a year since the last comment on here, has he gone the way of GR already ?

  • So we are supposed to Google, what ever our subject may be, plagiarize our " reliable" sources, by putting it into our own context and be done with it as quick as possible. This is what you want to teach? How is anyone supposed to retain any information this way? What if, God forbid, the internet is not always available? You may say this is efficient or quick but maybe that is what is wrong with the world today.

  • Sorry, you're right. I posted this before I'd watched the rest of the presentation. I found it really interesting as a whole. Cheers.

  • Dude thats the story of my life, I am a google master! Im involved in the future of neuroinformatics which involves combing knowledges of the past
