@ykaiilah Another rather surprising example: Stefani Germanotta. When I found out her story, mind = blown. Understandably, learning about her "before" pissed me off even more than when I had the perception that there was no "before".

@oHelmslyo So true! Just look at Shakira as a perfect example!! When she started she sounded like a Spanish Alanis Morsette. She was alternative, great (fantastic, really!) lyrics, played guitar, had black dread locks and red streaks! She wore pants and was a rocker! Now, her music sucks, she is blond and shakes her ass and spreads her legs. The music is dumb down and horrible! Look up "Creo" (original music) by Shakyra for one sample of a before.

Unfortunately, in today's bland world of stereotyped pop trash, the female gender is used only for its sexual value to a vast & misinformed chunk of American men who've never heard Billie Holiday, Ari Up, Ella Fitzgerald, Rose Stone, etc. I for one am an American male who listens to excellent male and female artists like Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, & so many others that aren't garbage like what the mainstream mindlessly hurls at us today.

I would love to see a segment about women in the music industry. I think they are largely ignored and not taken seriously. There are many fine, and talented women artists out there with something to say. Why are they always silenced?
