That seemingly was quite the dive.
If he could've skated off the initial (seemingly hard and powerful) chop upon him, one would think that he could've skated it all off, thereafter.

Messier was a cheap shot artist who got what he deserved. No tears for him!!

I personally believe that Messier has more integrity than to dive. He did play a very old school style of hockey, that is very rough n tough, but he always backed it up which was good. Here I feel as though he got slashed, thought he could skate it off, but just locked up, it happens. It appeared that he also may have been looking for a penalty call, but I imagine he had quite a stinger after that slash to go along with it.
