Vinnie is a humble man. He is good enough to know that there is a spiritual force out there. Jaco used to say "music is always flowing by, I just learned how to reach out and grab it.

but, I agree with bensoncarlos- it was his practicing constantly that got him to where he is. I can testify to this fact because he ruined my dashboard in a beautiful 1965 Pontiac station wagon by playing rudiments into it on the way to our lounge gig 5 nights a week. Bill Frisell was the guitar player in the band

@KermitDriscoll1 yes. discipline & devotion & a great deal of natural ability (all of which are a gift) contribute to Vinnie's talent... but it didnt bring Vinnie happiness or spiritual awareness. His was written long before he ever touched a pair of drumsticks. Faith & believing is a choice. I'm happy for Vinnie. In a band w Vinnie and Bill? Tell me more about that.. I'm hoping you have a safe dashboard now. peace.

Vinnie didn't need Sting. He'll do just fine with out him.

@spamtree in John 6:63 it says it is the spirit that gives live, the flesh (Human effort) counts for nothing. sure Vinnie practiced Ten hours a day most of his life, but that wasn't all of it. It was God through Vinnie that put him over the top, and that's why most RnB/Gospel drummers are so influenced by him.

@hyde2042 @hyde2042 I know Vinnie and I KNOW he practiced a LOT to get that good. I think what Vinnie is talking about when he says "I JUST PRAY" is in relation to the Jesus experience in his life since 1998. Jesus professes to excellence in love and in skill. The Christian realizes his gift is of GOD and we want to HONOR that gift by treating it with excellence, both w dedication, love and prayer.

Since 1998, I believe (which doesn't HAVE to be anyone's else's observation) that Vinnie has prayed for excellence with his drumming talents in both skill and CREATIVITY, which I believe have reached an almost 'supernatural' level with no end in sight. But, I DO agree with your statement.

I love the Lord Jesus Christ and I've been a jazz fan for years. I've seen the greatest drummers like Steve Gadd, Rick Marotta and Chris Parker. They have a gift that is truly from God,but I believe they practice a lot too! I play keyboards and can improvise well listening to some jazz CDs, but some I can't play to at all. So....I'm going to take some online courses from Berklee. To God be the glory for He is the giver of gifts and music is one of those. God bless you all!!
