  • so what is conversational sign langauge that a deaf and hearing person use together? My teacher is deaf and her son can hear and he says he signs different with her than she does with other deaf people? And do you do song request?

  • @tickler1983

Hmm, good question... I'd like to say that they use their own style to communicate together; but if one request it, hearing: tend to ask the other to slow down so they can understand clearly; deaf: tend to ask to hearing to sign as best they can or to use their mouth movements more but not to be exxagerating with the mouth... something like that, is what I've noticed among...the deaf and hearing people I know.

He signs differently probably because would be the fact that he can hear and see the difference on grammar structure in ASL and English, spoken/written, and I've had the same thing; I'm HoH and I started with pure ASL and eventually transitioned into PSE, using ASL signs but in english structure format.

Something like that. Some deaf people require TOTAL ASL to be able to understand the conversation or if its a hearing person, like her son, thus she'll work that.

Songs request...well I haven't done any in over a year... just been lazy. but it depends on what the song is. =)

  • Thanks. I am in a begging sign class and I am learning fast( the teachers said anyway!) But I am not fast at signing, but I can watch someone sign fast and know a lot of what they say. Is Pigin Singed English the same as Signed English?

  • @tickler1983 Not entirely as SEE, Signed Exact English; PSE,Pidgin Signed English, on the other hand is both ASL and SEE; I've been doing it my entire life and its what I believe it as is. There are few, some, or many that disagree; it depends.

Anyways, ASL alone is very much more of images of the conversation; SEE is the word by word.

PSE, put both together: You've got yourself a comic book!

    that I know of. =)
