Michael Jordan 1990 Playoffs: Gm 3 Vs. Bucks, 48pts

MJ wanted to celebrate his 40th career game in the real season with a sweep of the Bucks and ended up producing his 14th playoff game with over 40 points - which equated to a statistically stunning 35% of his playoff games hitting the 40 mark at the time. With defensive maestro Alvin Robertson sticking to him like glue and the Bucks clogging all the lanes, MJ took what the defense gave him and went to the jumper early on. Although he would score 23 points in the first half, his 8-18 shooting did not sit comfortably with him come halftime.
In the 2nd half, the Bucks grappled hard to stay alive. MJ awoke. As if a switch was suddenly turned on, he immediately drained eight shots in a row in the 3rd and 4th quarters to put the Bulls up ahead. Shooting an incredible 11-14 in the 2nd half, it took a freak shot by the Bucks to avoid the sweep and thwart MJ's intensity over the last few plays.
What is great about this game is that you can see MJ fine tuning the art of taking over a game as opposed to ruining team chemistry by making sure the best shot possible was given to the team. With 48 points and several minutes left in the game, MJ never forced a play to hit the 50 mark and instead, gave his open man the look. And while the Bucks eked out a win, the stage for the Bulls dynasty was set with the ultimate player polishing his ultimate team game.

I believe it's 212 total with the playoffs included. Mike has the NBA record of 38 games of 40+ in the playoffs. No one even comes close. It's all about the playoffs. (To put this into perspective, KB has just 5 in the playoffs. In fact, MJ has almost as many 40+ games in a SINGLE finals series (4 Vs. Suns) as Kobe has in his entire playoffs career (5 total).
Wilt has the regular season career record with 271 games over 40.

It's a big reason why the shorts we wear today are down to our knees. We can thank Jordan for this since he started it.

I know MJ tried to officially buy the Bucks about 7-8 years ago, but he's 'owned' them his entire career. :)

That and 2:54 are two examples of Mike starting his sprint (from a dead stop) below the opponent's foul line and making it to the opposite end for a dunk in a mere 4 seconds. Some younger admirers of the game don't realize how fast he was. Lebron, young Kobe, CP3... it doesn't matter. MJ in his prime would eat them all alive in the open court. He was the fastest player ever.

Hahaha this was back when everyone copied Mike and started rockin' compression shorts beneath their jersey shorts. Look at Mike shine while Cadillac Anderson stands on the sidelines and cheers with his ancient knee brace and fucked up fade haircut.
