Why is it so hard for Christian congregations to attract young adults? Why do some children grow up in the church only to drift away after high school? How many of those young adults are returning to the church in their 30s? And what about those young adults who never left the church? Are congregations meeting their needs?
The Disappearing 20-Sometings explores these questions by talking with young adults from across the country. We also interview experts in the field of young adult ministry and profile some exciting ministries that are reaching young adults where they live.

It starts much earlier than the 20s---even well before high school. Young people have become disillusioned and skeptical of Christianity altogether. There are far better answers and more logical things to believe that bronze age dogma. This is a credit to young people---so many are thinking, critically, unlike generations that preceded them

The young have an education and they know that there's no need to go to church to be respectable; those days are over. Mainline Protestantism is shrinking away faster than a pie in front of a hungry Michael Moore. Fewer than 5% of those under 30 belong to ANY mainline Protestant church. Why bother with any kind of nonsense?

I really need to show this to my congregation, we may be UMC, but we face the same problem.

I think a lot of young adults leave church because there is nothing for them at church once they leave youth group. My church is the rock of asheville. Our youth group is high school until we get married or decide we do not want to be apart of that ministry anymore. My church is for this generation and it is very relevant with its bible teachings!

My Name Is Rebecca and I Worship And Serve At Advent Lutheran Church in Orange Park,Florida which is near Jacksonville.
We are trying to put together a Young Adults Group for the College Age Youth in our church but we are struggling to get them to come.
If anyone has any ideas that would help our group then get in contact with me and I will pass it on.
We are trying to get the youth to be a part of the church again but it has been hard.
