Yes, twice that I know of. In San Diego a few years ago The U-21 did a complete flip on the back stretch, landed and kept running. It even drove all the way back to the dock. It had a few cracks, but probably could have finished the race!

Hydro Plane racing is by far the best Motor sport, as well is air racing which these 2 sports are attached at the hip anyway. HYDRO RACING/RENO AIR RACE for life!

in san diego the most recent deaths are due to the fuckin shallow water you race in not the wind....capsules hitting just water is fine but not the botom of the ocean is not....

A ok thx, is it only the design from F-16 or can i be the glas that are the same? Saw on Discovery about Unlimited and they said some thing about the cockpit and F16 but i maby miss understand what they said was a couple of yers ago :D

1st...its a canard not a rudder

2nd...cockpits are called capsules and they are not from f-16 just designed that way made of carbon fiber.

I attended a powerboat race in the keys a few years ago, watching it from the water aboard a thirty two foot fishing bout. One of the supercats (high powered catamarans) got out of shape and veered onto a collision course with our boat, sending us diving off the back for safety!!!! Luckily he swerved just in time, coming about five yards off our bow, but damn, THAT would've made the highlight videos!!!!

The hydroplanes have rudders in front of the cockpit, they use them like on a airoplane to lift the boat from the water or to push it down in to the water. The problem is when the driver feel he is taking to much air under the boat he have 1 sec to puch the rodder up to puch the down boat its to late, thats why the are flipping on the straight. The cockpit are from F-16 and the have oxygen masks so they can breath underwater and the engines are helicopter engines and have approx 2.500 HP

I remeber seeing the boat "Circus Circus" fliping over and landing the right way but it split his boat in half
