Former Taiwan president Chen Shui-bian returned to jail on Wednesday after almost three days of hospital care following a hunger strike. Supporters are preparing to protest his arrest, which they call a political plot.
A probe into the ex-president's suspected role in several money-related crimes will be finished by the end of the year, possibly leading to an indictment. Many still believe he is innocent.

Experts say Chen's fate will affect public opinion of Taiwan's opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which backed Chen in office. They face tough local elections next year.

The 57-year-old Chen is known as an anti-China firebrand who upset Beijing while in office from 2000 to 2008. He was arrested on November 12 on suspicion of graft, forgery, money laundering and other crimes.

He was sent to a suburban Taipei jail cell until late Sunday, when he was hospitalized after not eating for 108 hours.

A doctor on Wednesday determined that Chen was fit enough to return to jail.

The ex-president has denied wrongdoing and called the probe against him and other senior opposition leaders a political plot to discredit motions toward Taiwanese independence.

  • Great vid man!

  • The taiwan government is a failed democracy they mind as well go back to communism.

  • president chen has his flaws, but he and lee teng hui single-handedly saved taiwan from foreign (chinese nationalists) oppression. lee by successfully infiltrating to the kmt and chen by rising against the chinks in the formosa incident (kaosiung incident)

  • fuck the KMT. so taiwan became the whore of china (namely chinese nationalists refugees). how the fuck is that any better than being part of japan? if anything, kmt did worse things than the japanese ever did.

i bet you are one of those whose mom were raped by the chinks so no surprise you hate japan

  • To Icefrappe

If it was not of the KMT, Taiwan will be a whore of Japan. Be thankful that you still speak Mandarin and have a great national healthcare.

But the again, I bet you are one of those whose grandparents were raped by Japanese army, so no suprises there that you hate China.

  • What is really amazing about the corrupt ex-president is his shameless portrayal of himself as a martyr of the people. Gosh! His moral filth and evil is so deeply entrenched! Power indeed breeds corruption...

  • throw his filthy ass in Jail for LIFE!

  • lol so what? what an exuse , he did something against the constitution by stealing money which shows hes disloyal, a liar, and a thief. In the end of the day hes not gonna be thinking about his people , doing his job , and the parliments free for all fights. All hes thinking about is how he is gonna get paid and where is he gonna hide that extra dollar so he can sneak outa taiwan later on and live with money with blood :)

  • so what?

without him, taiwan would still be colonized and massacred by chink nationalists aka kuomintang

  • just look at his daughters and his house, this guy stole more money than mathra stewart
