Charlie Chaplin was a complex & rather amazing fellow human being I would have liked to have met him but being as I was born after his passing that was not possible. We can thank him for United Artists though which is still around & of course all his fantastic films.
I saw this in 1989 at the Dominion Theatre in Tottenham Ct Rd in London - they were showing City Lights with a full orchestra as part of Chaplin's centenary. They also showed some shorts and this was one of them. I thought this was the best.
Thank you for posting this. Now that I am older, and an uncle, I took it upon myself to introduce my nephews and nieces to Chaplin, Keaton, Laurel and Hardy, and the like. They love Chaplin, they like Keaton, and they adore Laurel & Hardy, and Abbott & Costello. Chaplin made this movie 93 years ago, and it's still funny. What an accomplishment. To compare, look at similar comedy shorts made in 1914. Some are funny, but Chaplin actually grew as an actor and filmmaker as the year went on.
hi. this is not the complete film but it has a few things the other versions of this film seem to be missing. please let me know where you got this. wonderful stuff. Mac Estelle p.s. for the record, first the public saw of chaplin in the tramp outfit but first one filmed was in Mabel's strange predicament. took longer to edit and release.
