@Waldvogel91 me too- I've seen this movie a dozen times- every time I find myself wishing he would succeed. It's like watching any classic movie- you want to see the hero persevere, even when you know the ending.

every time I see this my mind sort of deludes itself into thinking he can jump the second one too; it's an enormous pain to see him fall off.

The Great Escape is a real classic movie that deserves 5 stars for acting, plot, action, drama, suspense, comedy, tragedy, and an all star cast. This movie is still entertaining in 2011.
