My Whiteknee Tarantula (Acanthoscurria geniculata) feeding on a cricket. I used the nightshot function of my camera, partly because it was at night and because I thought it would add to the atmosphere. She´s about five years old, still growing.

Music: Kalle Kappner, playing the Opeth song "Death Whispered A Lullaby"

  • yeh thats the thing my tarantula is in its burrow 24/7 and when go to bed i 4get to check her and shes prolly up and out of the burrow

  • They sure don´t like too much light. :)

It depends on their age, too. Older and bigger spiders don´t hide that much.

  • yea...I use to have a tarantula, and i'm pretty sure that none of the tarantula species have poison lol. If so someone lied to me :D

  • They have of course poison. But it is harmless to people. Only if you are allergic to it, it might be dangerous. Nonetheless, a bite would be very painful.

  • Nice...I call this an Indian dance.

  • Thanks! Yes, there are indeed some similarities to that... :)

  • Thank you! Actually, she does the same thing any daytime. She seldomly hides in her "cave". This species is always on the hunt and doesn´t dig in much as most ground-dwelling Tarantulas do.

  • A very impressive creature! Nice job of capturing her nocturnal behavior.
