Yeah, its a shame cause some of the African Holocaust tunes was really good, but David gets into that generic thing where he makes the verses short and simple and the choruses too frequent, so that's gonna wear out the song too quick. Might catch the ear fast in the beginning, but it get old faster too. Too much reggae is like that. Pulse was different in the past had longer verses. But I like what David did recently with Jah Way and Jah Vengeance (check them hear on youtube).
Who's to say how much singers get paid vs. horns. Don't really know the politics of Steel Pulse but their best sound is in the past in my mind. Even before they had a horn section touring. I've always preferred their backing to have no female vox at all.
I think we can all agree that Pulse's best sound was in the past, and did they have female vox in the past? NOPE.
I don't use horns vs female vocals to justify that David Dread is about money, I know more.
Yet David now hire 2 female backup singers that don't really better than one cause when Donna Sterling in deh, backups sound good still and she have a personality/rebel vibe as a individual. Now di 2 girls dem deh pon da syncronize ting deh weh jus come in like decoration pon stage. If a me, I would keep at least 1 backup singer who can play trombone and switch w vox. Even one horn, combine with keyboards, looks and sound better than none. Visual is a part of the show. Vibes. Rebel vibes.
It's about the money. More money each guy gets between 4 guys then 7 or 8 seen? Burning Spear is one of the few, along with Alpha Blondy, that stay with the horn section. Pulse had them and dropped them. But David Dread been about the money for a long time.
Word. So funny how old time veteran reggae artiste is always going to synth horns, even Aswad is all about the horn section. But me haffi give props to di bredrin a play di keyboards cause him deh pon top still.
Sure, he's great, no doubt about that. But what's with the synthesizer horns? Can't he do himself and his reputation justice by having a real horn section? The horns were one of the signature things about Aswad.
God bless Brinsley Forde!

one of the best frontmen of any band. On par with David Hinds of Steel Pulse.
