This is the shed in my back yard. It was constructed by a group of architecture students in the spring/summer of 2008.

The walls are composed of gravel, clay and sheep's wool and were built using the rammed earth method of compacting the material within forms.

  • @MrAstro888 Really good questions that I can't fully answer. I suspect the erosion has more to do with the sustained splashing which is understandable. Non-splash prone areas are still perfectly fine. Therefore I think a larger roof overhang would go along way in extending the life of the shed. Not to say the current damage couldn't easily be repaired but obviously no damage is preferable to damage. I think with regular inspection/maintenance the shed would last many years.

  • two years with water splashing... are the materials partly to blame? How long should a rammend earth home last with out damage?
