I have a coordination problem, which has been confirmed by doctors, much like the man you described that couldn't march.
I often move the wrong arm with the wrong leg when walking and such.

That's why forces were men then, and today not so much. They're still tougher than your average man, but wusses compared to the Greatest Generation.
