The original ident from Ulster Television, in glorious black and white. Unfortunately as it's from a widescreen broadcast, all the 'points' don't quite make it on screen. Following this particular example was the introduction to the new channel by Laurence Olivier (not included here). ANY AND ALL COPYRIGHTS DUTIFULLY ACKNOWLEDGED.

  • I read somewhere that each dot represents a major town or city in Northern Ireland. So from the right hand side (or more westerly ) to the left you have Strabane, Derry, Enniskillen, Coleraine,Armagh, Ballymena and Belfast.

It makes sense but I am not 100% certain

  • I've always had a soft spot for this ident, which is unfairly maligned by some fellow TV Pres enthusiasts. Lovely, absolutely charming.

  • It's a very nice jingle. I never heard it much on mainland UK TV tho.

  • The musical box tune here is called 'The mountains of Mourne' The last couple of bars are sung as, 'Where the mountains of Mourne sweeps down to the sea'

  • That's a very nice observation there, by the way! When you look at the map that makes a lot of sense.

  • Yes 31 Oct 1959 4.15pm and was broadcast to approx 97, 000 homes

  • Your right on that point
