On my way up Uncompahgre Peak (4,361 metres - 14,309 feet)I encountered this endangered species research area. I believe this area is being protected for the Fritillary Butterfly, but I'm not sure. Either way, I made a point of staying on the trail even though it's obviously the most difficult to walk in because it retained most of the snow.
