Well after the 72 match Fisher gave most of his money to the world wide church of god, which he later abandoned and so spent 20 years living in abject poverty. The reason he got so sick was because he took many different chinese medicines as an "antidote" to Russian poisoning - this eventually gave him the renal failure, which was the cause of his death.

  • I cant believe I am seeing Spassky here!!! Thanks so much for this video!

  • @TheSwanlake2009 That wouldn't be hard.

  • Two legends of the game. Funny how they both don't rep Russia anymore. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

  • Легендарные шахматисты!

  • Is this the game that Korchnoi talks about?

  • @TheSwanlake2009

Thats true, even if Spassky had 2 Brainstrokes. Fischer was a young athletic man, but later he turned toward a tall person.

  • Spassky has definitely aged better. I think the main difference was their approach to life after the world championship. While Fischer spent all his energy battling the chess organizations, Jews, and the US government, Spassky was able to give up his hopes of regaining the championship and simply enjoy chess without the stress.

  • Fischer, had kidney problems, later leading to his death.
