@gcwedel Actually, I have seen them in quite large groups (10+ individuals) to medium (5-ish) groups more often than isolated individuals. It may be that you are seeing individuals isolated from their group after being disturbed by the presence of divers. They are actually squid- Caribbean Reef Squid to be precise (genus species name Sepioteuthis sepioidea) They are my favorite animals! Happy squid watching!
@MrMaxattacks21 No, those are caribbean reef squid, cuttlefish do not live anywhere near Mexico- where this video was taken. Cuttlefish are a completely different type of cephalopod and have larger, less streamlined bodies than those of squids. Caribbean reef squid are somewhat similar in appearance to cuttlefish due to the length of the fins- they run almost completely along the body, similar to a cuttlefish.
You seem to be over an shallow area with turtle grass- an excellent place to find this type of squid. Love the video
