Here's my take on this subject, using the figures cited here:

http://www.religioustolerance.org/rel_impo.htm

As well as statistics and figures obtained from Wikipedia (heh) and Encyclopedia of the Nations.

The music is looped from the string quartet's version of Paramore's "Crushcrushcrush."

  • What about Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Italy (roman chatolhic)? And the USA and the the majority of western Europe are christian. What about Israel? What about Brunei? Your conclusion is premature and subsides many other factors.

  • While the list is not comprehensive (that would have taken hours to present and even more hours to research) I did fulfill the stated goal - to look contrast the economy and education in the five countries in which religion is regarded as most important and least important per that study. And while there are no p or R values applicable to this data set (since it's qualitative), it demonstrates a negative correlation between religiousness and quality of life for a nation's citizens.

  • Hmmm---pretty hard to get literate when you are hungry. Religion is an easy sell when you are destitute, I'm afraid. That's the way it was done in biblical times. It was thought angels were protection from the bad guys. A make believe heaven was better than living. Ignorance isn't always bliss, I guess.

  • Thanks for commenting =). I agree w/ what you said...sad that things still haven't changed completely since the dark ages.

  • Good job. Nicely researched.

I'm sure there's a similar correlation in the U.S. between the red states and the blue states. I know for example that the poorest state (per capita) is Mississippi (red and religious) and the wealthiest state (per capita) is Connecticut (blue).

  • Thanks for the comment, kenotube =). Your proposal is interested, but strangely enough, many of the young religious people I go to school with are liberal, not conservative, and as far as faith, pick and choose which aspects of the bible/their denomination's preachings to follow (i.e. the pro-choice, pro-birth control, liberal, yet Catholic girls - who spouted their faith at every chance they got - that I went to school with...heh).

  • Cont,.. Because even though this Lawyer is the very best, you KNOW that mistakes happen or better said Humans LIE, CHEAT, STEAL, COVET, MURDER(which is the reason you are in court,.. murder, but they ARE mistaken) Now, if the TOP professionals in the field of law screw up regularly, then why trust ANYONE!? or for that matter, scientists who do NOT KNOW the age of the earth, due to complex issues that can not be solved. So to say WITH UTTER CONFIDENCE & to give this to schools to teach is MADNESS

  • @Alraera Hi Alraera, i don't know you but i think what you say is interesting. Can i ask you not why you became an Athiest, because you've made a video to inform me of that, but the question i would like to ask you is similar. I have personally found that the secular world as well as the spiritual world are all Liers! IMPORTANT: Would you trust entirely the BEST EVER lawyer who you are trusting to get you out of death row for a crime you did not commit? You would probably be so scared, TBC

  • Politicians in 3rd world countries always target the ghettos, they show up before the election and give away ridiculous gifts like a pound of rice, beans, cooking oil, hug all the homeless, the elderly, pretend to be worried about all the problems of those communities and after they win the election you won't see them again. If they lose they will come back in 4 yrs to try and get your vote one more time. Lack of education and religion go hand to hand

  • Religion screwed up big time: they let their global theocracy become undermined by science and rationality. Now with each new piece of scientific knowledge, religion is chipped away at.

  • 0:37 Hey look this country probably spends more on education than america does.

  • Excellent video! I am from Mexico. I think the figure for Mexico is wrong. I think it's about 80%. Yet, it's now better for non-believers to come out of the closet. Back in the 70's it was unpopular not to be religious . By the year 2000 Catholics have lost ground. Protestants have increased and the young non-religious population is here. I still meet a lot of people who believe in creationism, even though the education system openly teaches evolution without regard to the parents' beliefs.

  • It's always been known Catholocism and Islam thrive on the poor and ignorant. From their invention they taught people to follow the pulpit and religious leaders, no questions.

  • rich countries forgot about God because they have money.and just because someone has gone to a university doesnt mean that hes smart.it means he care less about religion and more about money.

  • Death to atheism!

  • Its not always poverty you see.
