  • @gshdrums ...i just watched some videos on snares...yeah the brass is awesome. I also really really dig the sound of the absolute nouveau aluminium snare drum by yamaha also. It sounds incredible..it almost sounds like a wooden snare drum but with heaps more crack and very musical, which would make it easy to articulate/get different sounds out of. Gunna go for 6 1/2 deep this time :)

  • @delitemyheart Alot darker, not the point where it doesnt really have any over ring.......copper is a little to soft for me........steel is very sharp and rings alot, brass is a softer metal so you get the crack but it is alot softer and fatter without the ring, and copper is just to soft sound for me....look them up on here and you should find your answer

  • @gshdrums True...and cause G1's are the equivalent to ambassadors & G2's are equivalent to emperor's.But i think Evans generally have better quality.Im going to try clear G1's on top & bottom next.I also hear that coated g1's are also very good on top for the oakies.Man i'm talking to the right person cause iv'e been debating whether i should go for a steel, brass or copper snare drum. So u luv the brass huh? How would u compare it to steel? They say brass has a darker sound..would that be true?

  • @delitemyheart I have ambassadors on bottom emperors on top, PS3 on kick.........Apparently G1 and G2`s work great on them to which is what im trying next. I have a Yamaha Brass Nouvea Lug 14x7 Snare.....words cant describe it, not over tones or ring just all slap and crack.

  • @hdrums Yeah i think your right. Also i think that akira jimbo doesnt use the oak snare either. I'm thinking of buying a steel snare drum actually.I think it will match the oakies well.I also luv the rest of the drums too..they sound amazing. At the moment i've got evans G-plus on the toms & a Emad 3 on the kick..and i hate them. That external muffling ring on the Emad kills the kicks presence in the mix.Oakies a very sensitive to heads.Cant beat ambs or emperors on toms & powerstroke3 on the kick!

  • @delitemyheart i talked a a guy that tours the world, he hates the snare on it, most of the time you will NEVER see any pros using the snare. I love the rest of the kit though, especially the 10"

  • @gshdrums.....but i read a review about an oak custom once and they raved on about how awesome the snare is. Agh i dunno. What i like best about the oak snare is the power..it's like driving a souped up v8, just a prod at the throttle and the power is there. Same thing with the oaks..heaps of power at a flick of the wrist. Also i luv the massive tuning range. Maybe ill try changing snare wires to a 18 or 20 strand because i think they are fitted with 12 or 14 strand wires..il see if that helps!

  • Hey @gshdrums it's funny that you say that about the oak custom snare because i'm not sure if i really like my snare either. My kit is 22x17, 10x8, 12x9, 14x12 with the 5 1/2 snare. I just find it hard to get the sound i want out of the snare..iv'e tried different heads..remo coated ambs, controlled reverse dot, and coated pinstripe's. I just feel i'm getting a dry & kind of boring sound with not much character. It pisses me off. But it's got so much power though..a real thunder cracker!

  • @drumzac i have a set now, there great, very different sounding....Defs have a sound of there own....Snare is crap though. Bought a 14x7 Brass Novuea Lug instead :D
