I've driven and tested multiple different models and accessories for the packbot. This is for some kind of demo, they wouldn't want it to mess up. These robots are not meant to be fully autonomous. They have a few preset positions which are autonomous; such as drive, ascend, peak, etc.

If it was autonomously active it wouldn't go flying off the top of the staircase. Besides, if they were really that worried they would have put a guard rail around the top. This bot is designed to be thrown through windows and survive 6 foot drops to concrete. My point is I think it can do better for the price. How are you certain it doesn't have autonomous abilities, such as climbing stairs without direct control over the front flippers to gain traction?

They are not autonomous robots, they are remote controlled.Why would you expect a quick ascent of a five-set staircase? Would you want your $120k to go flying off the other end?
