Ants can be a problem any time of the year but you can deal with them quick and easy with ordinary items you already have around your home. Don't spend money on expensive spray poison, make your own for pennies. In this episode of GardenRx: Top The Garden Secrets - #3, host Lorne Nancarrow shows us how to safely clean up after an ant invasion, how to bait and kill ants coming into your home and garden and how to turn your home into an ant unfriendly place so you'll never be bothered with ants again.

  • Wow, that's great to know, thanks for the tip!

  • Hi Ztrisha1,

I fear you're right about it being a difficult year. The heat is forcing creatures great and small to seek moisture where they can find it and your tomatoes, my tomatoes and all our neighbors tomatoes are prime for birds and mice. We've heard this question before and do have a video that may help title; When to Pick my Tomatoes? It addresses the pest issue. Just scroll through our home page at CupRockTV and you'll find it. Hopefully it will help. Good luck.

  • Hi Lotusblossomed,

Thanks for the great comment! Not only does the counter spray recipe wipe out the invaders, it keeps your kitchen and bathroom sparkling clean. And, it's costs only pennies to make. We've not spent a dime on expensive counter-top or window cleaners in years, this way you're able to keep your hard earned cash in your own pocket, where it belongs.

  • I've tried making a mix using the 9:1 ratio with maple syrup and boric acid, but the ants won't touch it. They go crazy for the regular maple syrup though. Do you have any suggestions?

  • I have used freshly opened _cola_ cans in the garden. Apparently, the sugary syrup attracks the buggers and the caffeine (in an overdose amount) kills the nest.

  • How do you get rid of fire ants?

  • Thank you so much! I tried the mixture for the garden and it really works, the black fire ants ate it up. Can you tell me what is the best way to kill leaf cutter ants? They won't eat the sweet boric acid mixture. I have a huge nest and I don't want to just make them move because they will most likely just move to destroy another tree or plant. I live in Costa Rica and right now it rains every afternoon. What do you recommend? Thanks again... Kathy

  • what to do for snail

  • We've tried the borax and honey and it kinda helped but I think this year is an especially difficult year.

My next questions is: How do you keep birds or mice or rats from eating our heirloom tomatoes? Also our other tomatoes . Dang, it's so disappointing when we come out and half of the tomato is eaten.

  • thanks for all the help i'll wait 30 min and check if ants are coming. They were coming through the electrical outlet.

    p.l.h ( peace love hope)
