It's so funny how people want to diss really good and successful (commercially) musicians. To me, there's no question that SC is a better songwriter and singer than NC. Her songs have way more variety and to add to that, her voice is better. Every Neko song I hear sounds quite nearly the same. Her voice is okay, but never thought it was really all that. Bottom line, I'd put in a Sheryl Crow CD over Neko Case anytime. It's just more interesting to my ear. And I guess that's the ultimate test.

Wonder if Sheryl had played acoustic guitar instead of the usual Tele it may have allowed the song to breathe and take off in a new direction, rather than stay tethered to the original version. I don't think there was much anyone could add to this.
