  • @innocent1252 No. Skinner is saying that consciousness is being aware of one's own states and being able to describe them, which we are capable of doing (albeit poorly) with verbal behavior. Dogs feel. They aren't able to describe their feelings. If animals weren't able to feel, Skinner would not have made history with pigeons.

  • When he talks about talking as the source of consciousness, surely he's not saying that an animal, like a dog, for instance, doesn't feel. What is his definition of consciousness?
