CosmoCam watches as a very large X-ray telescope moves into view aboard NASA's HERO balloon payload. Altitude is 25 miles at the edge of space!

  • @noxvet It is an X-Ray telescope. It would be inefficient to send it up on a satellite and it needs to be at the edge of the stratosphere as the earths atmosphere tends to absorb/deflect X-rays which is why they do not propagate far.

  • 25 miles!? Big deal--if I could ride my bike there it would take is less than an hour.

  • Maybe they say it because at 62 miles, it is almost completely vacuum, and at that altitude re-entry starts of a space-craft. Well, I don't exactly know.

  • I knew that. I don't know why they say space somehow starts at 62 miles when it can end as low as like 30 miles and go more than like 100 miles. Makes no sense.

  • Well actually 62 miles still isn't real space, although that's the common definition of space. The upper limit of the Earth's atmosphere can go as far as 10000 km above sea level.

  • 25 miles isnt the edge of space. space starts at 62 miles (the Karman Line). And 25 miles is only about 3 times as high as a jet airliner cruises.

  • whish that i could be there some time, and looking down to the world

  • Its up there near the edge of space how out of sight is that?

  • why is it moving so much? shouldnt it be focusing on something?

  • cool clip
